The founder of the Big Issue and the chief executive of Norwich homelessness charity St Martins will team up in Norwich next month.

The talk on May 8 will see Lord John Bird in conversation with Dr Jan Sheldon from St Martins in a Q&A session at Cinema City.

This discussion will follow a screening of the documentary Someone’s Daughter, Someone’s Son, directed by award-winning filmmaker Lorna Tucker.

The film delves into Tucker's personal experience of living on the streets.

Lord Bird and Dr Sheldon will share their knowledge and perspectives on homelessness.

Lord Bird is well-placed to contribute, given he founded the Big Issue specifically to provide a way for people in poverty to earn an income.

He now tours with Tucker's documentary to raise further awareness about the challenges faced by rough sleepers.

He said: "It’s fantastic that Someone’s Daughter, Someone’s Son is back for a new run in selected Picturehouse cinemas, and I’m excited to go on the road with this truly landmark film.

"Lorna Tucker has used her unique voice and lived experience to create a documentary that casts light on the extreme issues facing those at the coalface of poverty.

"It’s a rallying cry to the people of this country, and I hope these Q&As up the noise further and energise our audiences to support our mission to end homelessness.”
