A mother-of-two who has been waiting THREE YEARS for the city council to make repairs to her home is threatening legal action over the authority's "refusal to act".

Lisa Toelkemeier, 39, and her two daughters, aged 18 and nine, have been living in a council house in Bullard Road since January 2018.

Since then, the home has gradually fallen into a state of disrepair - with cracks, holes and a sinking patio all plaguing the Catton Grove property.

"In 2020, we called a carpet layer out to take a look at a crack in the living room," Lisa previously told the Evening News.

"Council surveyors were quickly called out and they found even more faults with the property."

But the family have since been left in the dark as the authority claims it is waiting for a drainage report before carrying out any repairs.

And despite reaching out to them on multiple occasions and the publication of a story in this newspaper, the family is still yet to hear anything from anyone at the city council.

"They haven't even phoned me," said Lisa.

"The crack is getting bigger and bigger every month.

"My nine-year-old is having to wear shoes around the house because she keeps tripping over.

"I don't see why they don't repair it. If it's too big a job to do with us in the house then move us out temporarily.

"But they don't want to know and they don't want to work with me to repair it."

This silence has prompted a frustrated Lisa to now threaten legal action against the council.

"My solicitor is drawing up papers and I'll be taking them to court," she concluded.

"Enough is enough and I don't know what else to do."

When contacted for a response by the Evening News, the city council declined to comment.
