Benches which were destroyed by vandals more than a year ago at a picturesque spot on the outskirts of the city still haven't been mended.

People in Thorpe Marriott were upset after Marriott's Way was subject to the loutish behaviour just off of Pendlesham Rise in August 2022, with bench seats ripped out.

Those who visit the tranquil spot are unhappy that the benches have still not been fixed.

Ann Lynn lives in nearby Marriott Chase and regularly visits the tranquil spot to help with her mental health after a number of back issues affected her mobility.

However, the 68-year-old said it was "heartbreaking" to see the benches in such a bad way for so long.

"I went to the area a lot last year and it's heartbreaking to see the state it's in.

"Because the seats haven't been added, the the bench hasn't been maintained and is decaying, so it's basically lost its purpose and it's such a shame.

"I've also seen shopping trolleys and large pieces of wood thrown in the pond there.

"I was really upset the seats were vandalised and removed and even though it can still be a wonderful place to be, it's just not quite as special as it used to be."

He said: "There was concern around adding seats back to the tree, because of how it's decaying and whether it was safe to fix it.

"So there will be a new picnic bench added near to the pond.

"We thought it would be better to put in something more sustainable and lasting, going forward, for people to enjoy."
