A man is at the end of his tether after pleading with the city council to sort out mould and damp which has been spreading through his home.

Daniel Thoroughgood has lived in Heartsease for the last four years and noticed the problems were getting worse in his Sale Road home in May.

The 39-year-old said: "I was moving some furniture around and found it.

"I think it's due to the state of the steps outside leading to the flats above and it's causing mould to spread through the house.

"It's got so bad there's mushrooms growing out from my house plants."

Mr Thoroughgood added that his mental health has suffered in his attempts to get the issue resolved with Norwich City Council.

"The stress trying to sort all of this out is taking its toll on me," he added.

"I'm not trying to be morbid but this place is going to be the death of me.

"Last week I had to throw out all of my food because I haven't been able to eat due to the stress and I have barely any energy to do anything.

"I want the council to come and sort this out, or find me somewhere else to live because I can't do this anymore."

After this newspaper contacted the city council it confirmed work had been arranged to fix the issues.

A Norwich City Council spokesman said: "When a resident reports mould and damp we carry out a mould wash as standard.

"Following our visit to Mr Thoroughgood’s home, a mould wash and other works are planned to fix the issues identified."

Mr Thoroughgood said: "It's been nothing but trouble here.

"I regularly feel like giving up."
