5 brand new cafes and bars opening in Norwich in 2023

Along with Norwich Market where you can buy fresh fruit and veg, lunch and ice cream, a host of new bars and cafes are set to open their doors this year.

Here are five exciting new eateries that will soon be welcoming customers in Norwich.

1. Bar Certida

Coffee shop Artel, at the top of London Street, closed earlier this year after five years in the city centre. 

Questions were raised when a "mysterious" buyer snapped up the prime spot and it was soon revealed the owners of the popular Italian restaurant Benoli had taken on the shop for a new tapas restaurant.

The opening date has not yet been announced but the team have promised a summer 2023 launch.

2. Cafe No.33 in the Park

Serving the city for nearly 30 years, former Mexican restaurant Pedro's closed in 2019 to much public dismay.

An American diner called Harry's had filled the desirable Chapelfield Gardens location for four years but also closed last year. 

Following its exit, the site's future was uncertain until Cafe No.33 announced it will be opening a second venue at the site.

3. Wright's Cafe

Dad-of-three Adam Wright will be opening his third branch of Wright's Café in the former Watsons estate agents in Bank Plain.

The expansion come after Adam saw "huge success" at his two Suffolk premises in Bury St Edmunds and Helmingham.

The cafe's speciality is homemade toasties, cakes and coffee, with a hopeful opening date of June 19.

4. The Cat House

When: 136 Dereham Road, Norwich, NR2 3AF

An eagerly-awaited cat cafe in Dereham Road is just a few months from welcoming its first guests.

The cafe will offer specialist cat-themed workshops and classes including art, writing, book club, yoga, and talks.

Bookings for the cafe and classes are set to open two weeks before the grand opening which will be announced soon.  

5. Oliver's Bar

When: 152a Unthank Rd, Norwich, NR2 2RS

Oliver's Bar, in Unthank Road, announced its closure on Instagram in February, having served a range of classy cocktails nibbles.

Earlier this month, the owner of The Earlham and The Black Horse announced she will be taking over the NR2 bar.
