There was a police presence in the city centre this afternoon.

Officers were called to Timber Hill in Norwich at 1.32pm following reports of an assault.

One police car, two vans and a number of officers were seen outside St John the Baptist Church, opposite John Lewis.

A police spokeswoman said two women, aged in their 40s, were arrested.

One was arrested on suspicion of breach of court-imposed bail conditions and assault of an emergency worker and the other was arrested for common assault and assault of an emergency worker.

They were both taken to Wymondham Police Investigation Centre for questioning, where they remain.
