Two very similar suspected arson attacks on cars in a city estate in the space of 10 days are NOT being treated as linked by police.

The fires have been the talk of Catton Grove this month after the two cars were set alight in the middle of the night.

The first happened during the early hours of May 1, when a Nissan Juke went up in flames in George Winter Court.

Less than two weeks later, on May 11, a VW Passat Estate was set on fire in Harmer Road - just a 10-minute walk away.

However, despite both incidents occurring in the same area and CCTV suggesting a similar method of setting the vehicles ablaze - with a bag set alight and placed under the front of the cars - police are treating each case separately.

A police spokeswoman said: "We can confirm that the arsons are being investigated separately and are not being treated as linked."

No one has been arrested in connection with either fire yet. Anyone with information can call police on 101.
