Pharmaceutical giant Boots has confirmed the closure of one of its city centre stores after rumours circulated about its uncertain future.

The Anglia Square branch is one of 300 stores nationwide the chain is closing as part of its consolidation programme, focused on combining customer bases of stores that are within two kilometres of one another.

Rumours about the NR3 store started to spread in November when staff reportedly confirmed the closure to customers.

Weston Homes has not confirmed when the work will take place but previously said tenants can expect "business as usual" for the foreseeable future.

Once complete, the site will have 1,100 homes built across 12 blocks, ranging in height from two to eight storeys.

Plans also included 8,000sqm of commercial space, a community hub and 450 car parking spaces.
