Boots has declined to confirm the future of one of its Norwich stores amid reports of an imminent closure.

Some customers of the pharmaceutical giant's Anglia Square store have told this newspaper that staff had confirmed the closure and advised them to find somewhere new for their prescriptions to be sent to.

It was announced in June that Boots intends to close 300 stores during the next 12 months, with a consolidation programme focused on its stores that are within two kilometres of one another, which saw a store at the UEA closed.

However, when asked by this newspaper about the rumours, Boots declined to comment, in spite of the start of the rebuild of Anglia Square getting under way soon.

The NR3 store offers beauty and toiletry essentials as well as having a pharmacy.

If the precinct's Boots store did close it would leave locals with four pharmacies within half a mile, including the company's branch in London Street in the city centre.

The Anglia Square redevelopment is due to start as early as the end of this year.

Weston Homes has not confirmed when the work will take place in the shopping area of the site, but they have said tenants can expect ‘business as usual’ well into next year.

The work has already seen some shops closing or moving to new premises, with some charitable organisations also on the hunt for a new home.

The first earmarked building to fall is the disused multi-storey car park which has stood empty since 2012.  

The work will be carried out in phases across eight years. Once complete, the site will have 1,100 homes built across 12 blocks, ranging in height from two to eight storeys. 

Plans also included 8,000sqm of commercial space, a community hub and 450 car parking spaces.
