There are a lot of developments happening in our city's roads that are set to get under way in early 2024.

Here are five roadwork projects starting in Norwich in January.

1. Queens Road

The £1m revamp of part of the city centre ring road is expected to take around three months.

The project includes a new bus lane on Queens Road for vehicles turning into the bus station as well as new road markings on the Chapelfield Road approach to the St Stephens roundabout.

Phase one of the work will take place between January 8 and 29 and will involve lane closures and changes to bus station access.

2. Colney Lane

Work on the crossing beside the University of East Anglia playing fields in Colney Lane will begin on January 8.

The project is expected to take five days to complete.

The change is part of a countywide traffic signal replacement programme which involves updating traffic lights where necessary to ensure they continue to meet current standards.

3. Dereham Road

The next section of the work on Dereham Road in Costessey is set to begin on January 8 and will be carried out in phases until July, focussing on the Bowthorpe Travel Hub.

The existing road closure at Three Mile Lane will be extended and reduced speed limits will also be in place.

The first phase of the £4m project has also been extended into the new year due to additional drainage and carriageway resurfacing work required at the Folwell Road junction.

4. Davidson Road

The pavement in Davidson Road in Thorpe St Andrew will be resurfaced and the road will be closed for the entire construction beginning on January 8.

This is expected to take around 12 weeks.

The junctions of Davidson Road leading to Birkbeck Way and Thomas Vere Road will also be closed.

5. Eastern Close

Eastern Close in Thorpe St Andrew will be closed for up to six weeks from January 8.

The worn-out pavement is being resurfaced and broken kerbs will be replaced on the road near Fitzmaurice Park.

Access may be briefly blocked to properties as work is carried out on the pavement by the driveway of the relevant house.
