An attempt by McDonald's to overturn a decision on planning permission is set to be assessed next month.

In January 2022 the fast food giant submitted plans to replace Sprowston company Richard Nash Cars, next to the M&S petrol station in Mousehold Lane.

Those plans were refused by Norwich City Council's planning committee in September last year - by a vote of six to five - but McDonald's has since appealed to the government's Planning Inspectorate.

Now, on the week commencing January 17, 2024, a planning inspector will consider written representations and all of the relevant evidence around the proposal before determining whether the city council's decision to reject the application was valid or not.

The application has caused a lot of controversy for those living in the area.

The main campaign against the proposed drive-through restaurant, Sprowston's Not Lovin' It, set up a petition to oppose the development - collecting almost 250 signatures.

Some of the main concerns which have been raised relate to increased traffic, pollution and litter in the area, especially by Mousehold Heath.

If the council's decision is overturned, it would be the 10th McDonald's in the Norwich area.
