A large-scale drug grower and shoplifting gang who targeted 47 branches of the same supermarket chain have been among those jailed in Norfolk in the last week.

Appearing before Norwich Crown Court on Monday, Cupi, 38, of Stevenson Road, Norwich, pleaded guilty to the production of cannabis and theft of electricity following his arrest in June.

In a search of his property, officers found 122 cannabis plants alongside growing equipment, three mobile phones and a small amount of cash.

Cupi was sentenced to one year in prison which PC Lewis George said he hoped would serve as "reassurance" to the local community.

Two Romanian nationals were arrested in Norfolk after attempting to steal more than £40,000 from a Morrisons supermarket in Dereham.

The court heard that the pair had already stolen £65,000 worth of goods from Morrisons outlets across 26 other counties which had spurred the chain to launch its own £22,000 investigation. 

Alexe, 24, was jailed for 27 months and Efta, 35, was jailed for 18.

Lake, 32, was arrested after awaiting sentencing for supplying diamorphine and cocaine in Great Yarmouth as well as dealing cannabis.

While on bail he was caught with wraps of cocaine as well as £360 in cash and a mobile phone linked to drug dealing.

Jailing Lake for 33 months, Norwich Crown Court recorder John Bate-Williams said the offences were "so serious that only immediate custody is justified".
