Fresh life arriving at an empty city centre restaurant has moved a step closer.

A Castle Quarter unit formerly used by Mexican eatery Cocina has been empty since the start of this year but is set for a new tenant.

Vegan fast food chain Hank's Dirty had applied to Norwich City Council for permission to install a new ventilation system at the restaurant, at the shopping and leisure centre's Farmers Avenue entrance.

Permission was granted on Wednesday (September 27), with council officers stating that the work should be completed within three years.

Hank’s Dirty already has an outlet at Castle Quarter's upper-level food court, Castle Social, but is moving to a unit with space for 80 diners.

However, boss Geoffrey Bligh has also applied to serve alcohol from the new site, which they are unable to do at Castle Social due to the central bar being the only place to serve drinks.

Plans are for Hank's Dirty to also remain in Castle Social but under a different name.

Castle Social is currently on the lookout for new kitchens to open in the site after Currybox and Mamma Mia left the venture earlier this year.
