Roadworks in a busy commuter road have caused traffic chaos on the first day of works which are set to last more than a month.

The roadworks being carried out in the street between St Andrews Street leading up to Redwell Street in the city have seen the setting up of three-way traffic controls which have so far caused queues and delays.

Works started on Monday September 18 and are scheduled to continue until Friday October 27.

A woman who walks along St Andrews Street most mornings said: “It’s been absolute chaos this morning.

“People are sick of waiting which means they fly through red lights angering the drivers who have waited their turn.”

A cyclist who exits the city centre along St Andrews Street as part of his commute said: “I hadn’t realised that it would be queued right back, I was waiting outside Open for what felt like a long time.
