A seat held by a councillor for just eight weeks will be up for grabs in a by-election next month.

Drew Moore, who was elected as a Labour councillor for Thorpe St Andrew North West ward at the local elections in May, resigned from Broadland District Council in June.

Mr Moore, who was also a town councillor, said he could not balance the role with a new job and give it the time required.

He added: "I apologise to local residents for resigning. But I’ve enjoyed speaking to a number of them on the doors and also starting to help with casework in the short time I was in the role.

"I’ve donated my councillor allowance to Thorpe dementia cafe and hope the best in the future for Thorpe St Andrew and the Broadland district."

By-elections for both Mr Moore's district and town council seats will take place on September 7.

Speaking on his resignation in June, Natasha Harpley, Labour leader at BDC, said the departure would not affect Broadland’s political balance - with the council controlled by a coalition of Liberal Democrat, Labour and Green councillors.

The partnership holds 26 of the 47 seats.

Mr Moore helped Labour take full control of the Thorpe North West ward at district level, where the Tories had previously held two of the three seats.
