A play tower in a children's play area has had to be fenced off due to safety concerns.

The climbing frame in Sir George Morse Park in Laundry Lane, Thorpe St Andrew has been closed to the public as a broken part has been discovered.

A spokeswoman from Thorpe St Andrew Town Council said: “A replacement part has been ordered but it is not due to arrive until September.

“It will be repaired and reopened as soon as possible by our maintenance team once the part has arrived.”

The fault was found because the town council ensure the park is inspected regularly and, on this occasion, it was deemed not safe for children to use with the broken part.

The spokeswoman said: “The park and the rest of the play area remains open with plenty of equipment available such as roundabouts and swings.

“We also have a disability swing for wheelchair users.”

There is another play area for children nearby in Fitzmaurice Park, in Pound Lane, with swings, slides and rocking animals.
