An outdoor concert in a Norwich park has been cancelled as rain is set to continue falling all afternoon and evening.

Taverham Band had been scheduled to treat locals to a free concert at the bandstand in Eaton Park on Saturday night (July 22) from 7pm to 9pm.

But with the weather forecast predicting heavy rain into the evening, the organisers have cancelled the event.

A spokesman for Friends of Eaton Park, the event organisers, said: "The weather forecast has deteriorated massively overnight and in addition to heavy rain there is a chance that the bandstand will flood due to the rain, which is due to last all afternoon.

"We hope to reschedule later in the summer, hopefully with Taverham Band or if not another local band."

Taverham Band's programme was set to include brass band classics, musical numbers and famous songs from hit films.

Heavy rain is expected to continue into the early hours of Sunday morning.
