Tackling anti-social behaviour and speeding will be the priority for police in two areas of Norwich.

Norfolk Constabulary has set out plans to focus on stamping out these issues in Sprowston and Old Catton over a three-month period.

It comes as the city sees a 10pc rise in anti-social behaviour from May 2022 to May 2023.

Police speed checks have also been increased in areas such as Thorpe St Andrew - specifically along Spinney Road and Thunder Lane, which are both notorious for speeders.

Spixworth and Buxton roads, which run through the heart of Old Catton, have been flagged as speeding hotspots by local councillors.

"These are two very important issues we need to tackle," said Ken Leggett, councillor for Old Catton and Sprowston West.

"It's important here and it's important across the city.

"We need to ensure we are maintaining and protecting the status of our area.

"People need to feel safe and know this is a good place to live."

Despite crime levels in the Sprowston ward being relatively low, police say there is a particular problem with youth anti-social be a problem - especially at weekends when groups of youths congregate.

Last year, a Sprowston mum told the Evening News of her desperation to move away from the Manor Park estate as a result of anti-social behaviour.

Shona Kelly, 34, of Scott Close, implored housing provider Victory Homes and Broadland District Council to help her move to a more peaceful area.

She said her six-year-old daughter is scared living in the estate having previously seen her doll stabbed several times with a knife after it was left on the doorstep.

The fresh crackdown in Sprowston comes as police in the east of the city announce plans to focus on anti-social behaviour in key hotspots.

Earlier this year, cops in Norwich North pledged to tackle issues with drugs and speeding.
