Work to deter speeding in urban areas is set for a fresh focus near a collection of schools.

Police speed checks in Thorpe St Andrew have already taken place along Spinney Road and Thunder Lane - the latter near Hillside Avenue Primary and Nursery School - which are both notorious for speeders.

Gordon Avenue, St Williams Way, Acacia Road and Beechwood Drive have been flagged as other speeding hotspots where action needs to be taken in a meeting with councillors, locals and police officers.

Speeding motorcyclists late at night on the ring road, South Hill Road and A47 were also discussed.

Thorpe district councillor Ian Mackie said: "We are seeing some drivers driving at ridiculously high speeds in 30mph areas.

"In a mostly residential area with many older people, three primary schools and a large high school, more care needs to be taken."

Additional speed checks will be carried out in the coming weeks.

Cllr Mackie and Cllr Peter Berry have also volunteered to take on the community speed watch which Cllr Berry says will "reinforce the message of safe urban driving".
