The site of a supermarket which closed in NR3 last month has been put up for sale for offers in excess of £1.3m.

FHP Property consultants have been instructed to sell the freehold of the former Lidl site in Drayton Road, Mile Cross, which closed on April 30.

The store opened in 1995 but local opposition to the closure proved unsuccessful, with the German brand already having another store just half a mile away, in Aylsham Road.

The 1.18-acre site currently includes the 9,000sqft store and 55 parking spaces.

The property consultants believe that the site would be ideal as a whole or split into smaller units.

However, they say the site is also suitable for redevelopment - subject to securing appropriate planning consents - for a care home, retirement living or even an apartment development.

Lidl opened its first British store in 1994, making the Mile Cross branch one of its oldest in the country.

However, a spokesman told campaigners they were "sorry to hear you and the community are disappointed" but said the circumstances around the closure were "a business decision".
