A gadget store chain is hunting for a new Norwich home after its long-standing shop in Chantry Place closed.

Menkind closed last week after 13 years in the city shopping centre with staff seen emptying the store on Friday.

Now the chain says it is keen to retain a presence in the Fine City and is hunting for a location after it could not agree on a new lease with Chantry Place bosses.

The shopping centre announced on Friday it would be replacing Menkind with a "new and exciting retailer".

Norwich Evening News:

A spokeswoman for Menkind said: "The lease expired on our Menkind store in Chapelfield and unfortunately, we were unable to agree terms with the landlord.

"We are currently exploring alternative locations in the city and if an opportunity arises, Menkind would be delighted to return to Norwich.

"In the meantime, you can find our full range of products on our website."

A sign in the window of the store said shoppers' nearest store was in Peterborough.

It promises to be a summer of change at Chantry Place with the long-awaited Urban Outfitters store planned to open in June and Menkind's replacement to open in "early summer".

Paul McCarthy, Chantry Place's general manager, said the shopping centre was attracting a high level of interest from retailers.

Speaking after the closure of Menkind, he said: "We continue to receive lots of interest from incredible brands to trade at Chantry Place.

"While Menkind has closed, we have a new and exciting retailer moving into the unit very soon with an opening planned for early summer.

"It is an exciting time for us with Urban Outfitters also set to join our line-up soon.”

In a message on its Google listing, the chain thanked customers for their support during its time in the city.
