A much-loved Danish bakery in the heart of the NR3 area of Norwich is shutting to the public and will shift focus.

Maggie Christensen, 33, who moved to Norwich from Denmark in 2017, opened Fra.kost at St Augustines Gate in April 2021.

Beforehand she had delivered Danish pastries and fresh lemonade across the city on a cargo bike.

But two years on from the bricks-and-mortar bakery launch, she has announced that the last day it will be open to the public is Monday, May 29.

She will continue to use the space to bake in for wholesale and online orders, which are delivered by bike, and workshops will continue.

Miss Christensen said: "We have been doing very well with the retail side and our customers feel like extended family, but unfortunately we have some challenges in the area, which will only get worse in the summer.

"There is such a demand for wholesale so this has spurred me to keep going."

While she did not want to make public these challenges, if it is resolved she may reopen the café in the future.

She added: "I am deeply grateful to my customers who have kept me motivated, especially when I was working 90 hours a week.

"The café may reopen at some point but right now in the current situation it is the smartest decision to shut and I need some time to rest and recover."
