A 14-year-old schoolgirl is posting brownies across the country and stocking a city café after starting her own baking business.

Sophie Yaxley started creating gluten-free sweet treats after receiving a coeliac diagnosis which pushed her to launch her business, Dancing Bee Bakes, at the age of 13.

The young baker sells her goods at the Cat Lounge in Dereham Road and has set up a post and collection service from her kitchen in Salhouse with help from her mum Jenny.

She has now become the youngest entrepreneur to receive funding from Broadland District Council’s Business Builder scheme.

“What I love most is when people enjoy my bakes and have no idea they are gluten, dairy and egg-free," she said.

“With the grant, we were able to get a commercial mixer and now I can do 20 batches in one go, when before it was only two."

Broadland District Council’s Cabinet Member, Cllr Martin Booth, added: “Over 200 business owners have benefited from our scheme, with funding, training support and more.”
