Young wordsmiths are being encouraged to take part in this year's Young Norfolk Writing Competition.

Celebrating poetry, song lyrics, fiction, non-fiction and scriptwriting, the competition is open to 11 to 18-year-olds living or studying in Norfolk.

The event is a collaboration between Writers' Centre Norwich, the Young Norfolk Arts Trust and Norfolk County Council, and winners will receive professional mentoring to help take their writing forward and will see their work published on the WCN website.

Peggy Hughes, programme director at Writers' Centre Norwich, said: 'We're delighted to be partnering with Young Norfolk Arts Trust and Norfolk County Council once again to celebrate the creativity and passion of Norfolk's young writers and to offer this exciting opportunity for their brilliant work to be read and heard.'

Lucy Farrant, Young Norfolk Arts Trust director, said: 'I am delighted with the continuing success of this competition which celebrates the creativity of young people throughout the county. It is very exciting that this year's competition will be open to all forms of writing and that submissions can also be made verbally. I am looking forward very much to reading and hearing the entries.'

The competition is free to enter and the deadline for entries is June 4. Entries may be written, recorded or in graphic story format. For more information, visit www.writerscentrenorwich.org.uk
