The search is on to find people to take part in a unique performance project on Wells beach for this year's Norfolk and Norwich Festival.
The north Norfolk beauty spot is set to be the stage for Wayfaring - an installation and performance piece created by theatre-makers And Now: who are hoping to get as many local people as possible involved.
Inspired by journeys in the landscape and the ancient routes of the Icknield Way from Wiltshire to Norfolk, And Now: will be creating a series of artworks that encourage people to think about movement and migration.
The installation will be made over several days from local and found materials, and once complete it will form the centrepiece for night-time celebrations with illumination, music and performance.
The whole project will run from May 22 to 27 and people can find out more about how they can get involved during a taster day on Saturday, April 7 from 2pm until 4pm at Wells Beach Café.
Sarah Witcomb, Norfolk and Norwich Festival participation and engagement manager, said: “Wayfaring offers the chance to be part of a large site-specific performance and installation on Wells beach during the last weekend of the festival. We would love to hear from anyone aged 16 or over who is interested in the performing arts – perhaps you’re part of a local drama or dance group, or even a walking group – we’re simply looking for anyone who would like to work with artists on the beach in May.”
People can also get involved in a second festival project called Processions which is all about celebrating being a woman in the 21st century.
Processions - a project by 14–18 NOW and Artichoke and in partnership with the festival- will be running a series of banner-making workshops and the banners will then be used as part of a parade in London on June 10. The first of the banner-making workshops is on Saturday, April 7 from 10am until 12pm at the Fashion Studios at City College Norwich.
