A Norwich band that formed from the relatives of a popular Norfolk band returned to their home in Mile Cross for a special gig.

Uprising includes a son, nephew and a brother-in-law of the band The Floating Greyhounds, and after watching their relations perform they were inspired to form their own band.

Guitarist Luke Yaxley performed on stage with the band one night, and soon had the drummer’s son, Jack Buttifant, joining him in a new band on drums, with the bass player’s son Matt Chaney, 19, on vocals and Andy Burton, 23, taking the bass.

They played their first gig in November 2009 for friends and family, but after playing small guest spots at birthday parties they progressed to playing venues including the Boundary and King Edward, both in Mile Cross.

They also played at the Norfolk Halloween Ball, Sheringham School Prom and the Elm Farm Music Festival.

Earlier this month Luke, 16, of Norwich City College, Jack, 15, of Sewell Park College, Andy, 23, who previously went to Springwood High, in King’s Lynn, and Matt, 19, formerly of Hellesdon High, returned to The Boundary, in Mile Cross, to celebrate two years together. Drummer Jack Buttifant said: “In the two years we’ve been playing it’s been an amazing experience. To be stopped at school or stopped in the street and be recognised is fantastic, but we’re just playing the music we love and enjoy.”

Jack’s dad Butty said he was pleased that his son was following in his footsteps.

Mr Buttifant said: “I’ve been playing in The Floating Greyhounds for over 18 years. Week in week out, every weekend, my life is the band, but these boys didn’t pick up instruments until a little over two years ago and they’re gaining their own recognition and identity already.”
