Raise your steins in the air as Oktoberfest Norwich returns to the city this weekend.

Expect authentic German beer, live oompah bands and plenty of lederhosen as the popular event comes to Eaton Park on Friday October 5 to Saturday October 6.

What can I expect at the event?

Oktoberfest Norwich took place in a 'Grand Bier Tent' outside Carrow Road in 2017 and is back with a new home for 2018.

The Bavarian bash promises over 30,000 litres of beer and traditional German food including Bratwurst and pretzels.

Oompah bands will be performing their very own blend of 'oompop' across all three sessions which run on Friday evening and Saturday afternoon and evening.

What is Oktoberfest?

Oktoberfest is the world's largest beer and folk festival and traditionally runs for 18 days in Munich, Germany from mid-September.

This year's event saw almost six million people visit the city with other events held across the world.

Oktoberfest began in 1810 to celebrate the marriage of Prince Ludwig to Princess Therese of Sace-Hildburghausen.

The royal newlyweds deemed the party so great that they wanted to repeat it every year and so Oktoberfest has been celebrated in Munich every autumn since then.

No drinks will be permitted on the site but there will be plenty of bars at the event serving a range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks.

Guide/assistance dogs are permitted but no other animals are allowed on site.

How do I get there?

The postcode for Eaton Park is NR4 7EF and it is located 40 minutes walk from Norwich city centre, 20 from the University of East Anglia (UEA) and the South Park Avenue end is on the 25 bus route which runs from UEA to the rail station.

How do I purchase tickets?

Tickets to the event can be purchased online and includes entry to the Bier Tent which features entertainment, bars and outdoor Bavarian food area.

You will be sent an e-ticket to the email you provide but this must be printed and brought to the event with you.

There is three sessions and you will need to have a valid ticket for each one if you want to come to all of them.
