This pleasant walk can be split into two separate walks, one from Cromer, the other from Felbrigg. The whole walk goes over rolling countryside and through woodland, visiting the Felbrigg Estate.

t Cromer and Full Walks: From the pier, cross the esplanade, go up the steep slope to a signpost and follow the Weavers' Way pointer along Garden Street. Cross Church Street. Keep ahead going to the left-hand side of the tree seat along Chapel Street. Cross Louden Street into The Croft, past the Information Centre. As the road goes left continue ahead to the end of the car park on the right. Cross it, then go left following a low ranch fence, past a children's play area, to the far right field corner. Go into a pathway parallel with Hall Road.

t Continue on the pavement past impressive Cromer Hall. Then, just past the zoo entrance, and immediately after a house on the right, go right through a gate (signed Weavers' Way). Follow the path across the meadow uphill to the left edge of a wood, then beside it. At the corner follow the fingerpost rightwards. Go beside a gate and over a railway bridge. Continue ahead with the markers. Don't go into the wood but continue along the edge (well marked), then down the steps to a lane.

t Cromer Walk: Go up the steps opposite and continue after as described below. Otherwise turn right along the lane (ignoring the signed Weavers' Way path on the left). Follow the lane to the B1436. Cross to the Felbrigg Hall entrance opposite. Follow the drive to the main car park and hall.

t Full and Felbrigg walks: From the car park, go past the house on the drive. Then, opposite the orangery, go left at the small marker. Soon take the left fork at the second marker post. Continue past a large tree stump and several felled tree trunks. Go through a gate just before a large oak tree and turn left on a path. Just before two more wooden gates turn right following the Weavers' Way marker, over a sluice, then through another gate and ahead following the signs.

t Go left at the next marker, through another gate, then walk with the lake on the left. As the path goes left round the end of the lake, go right onto a wide track. Then fork right, keeping to the Weavers' Way, eventually going past a notice board to the road. Turn left (leaving the Weavers' Way). Continue past signs to Felbrigg Lodge and Aylmerton Field Study Centre. Opposite a junction, go left back into the Felbrigg Estate past the Gamekeeper's Cottage.

t Go along the wide track. At a fork, go right, through a kissing gate and ahead on a path across pasture. Continue uphill. At the brow of the hill, go left over the second stile, beside a tree, making for the church. Go through a gate and beside the wall, then through the gate into the churchyard. Go past the church and out the other gate, through another gate and right on a path and soon beside a wire netting fence. Go through another gate and turn left along a track.

t After about a third of a mile, go right on a field edge path with a wood on the left. Then follow the path through the woods, through a kissing gate and across a meadow. Then go right through a gate onto a track, past the house, now on the Weavers' Way again. Continue ahead, past the small green on the left with the war memorial and village sign, to the road. Turn right along the pavement. Opposite Grove Farm on the right, turn left along a signed track (Weaver's Way) with notices about Drift Farm Holiday Cottages and a pond on the right. Continue past the cottages to a lane.

t Felbrigg Walk: Turn left along the lane. Follow the lane to the B1436. Cross to the Felbrigg Hall entrance opposite. Follow the drive to the main car park and hall. Otherwise turn right to the paths on either side and go right up the steps. Cromer walk also continues from here.

t Continue into the wood. At a crossing path go left and follow this lovely path (ignoring a path on the left). Continue ahead then wind downhill to a lane and turn right. Continue uphill, then go left on a signed tarmac track and between farm buildings and past a house on a dirt track. Continue on a grassy path behind bungalows on the left and through a make-shift metal gate to an enclosed path. Continue between houses to the road. Turn left and go past Roughton Road Station.

t Opposite Mayfield Drive go left onto a shingle drive, then immediately right after the bungalow on a narrow path. Follow this path with a hedge and dwellings on the right and a field, then woodland, on the left. Go through an old metal gate and, eventually, downhill between houses to a road. Continue ahead downhill then, at a crossing road, go through the barriers and continue downhill towards the church. Cross the next road and go beside the cinema. Go into the churchyard and visit the church. Go right and round the end of the church and down Jetty Street. Turn left past the Hotel de Paris and back to the Pier.

JOIN THE RAMBLERS

The Ramblers is Britain's walking charity which has been working to encourage more people to take up walking and to safeguard footpaths and the countryside for 75 years. Whether you're an old hand or a complete beginner, the organisation can help you get the best out of walking through its network of local groups.

The Norwich Group has been established for more than 35 years and was the first group in the Norfolk Area of the Ramblers Association.

Non-members are welcome to join all walks in national festivals and some special events and programmes. Most regular walks are intended for Ramblers members, but you are welcome to attend two or three walks on a try-out basis.
