Kiefer Sutherland, well-known for starring in the hit TV show 24, proved to the crowds of The LCR last night that he is in fact a quality musician.
The night was opened by supporting act Rick Brantley - a singer/songwriter hailing from Macon, Georgia.
Taking to the stage alone with his guitar in hand, he kicked into his set getting things moving along nicely.
With a voice that is both powerful and gritty and at times quiet and refined, it was an absolute honour to witness a talent so raw in a relatively intimate venue.
He's the sort of performer that completely captivates you and demands every ounce of your attention as you're drawn in both by his charm and his musical artistry.
It was however his performance of Hurt People that comes to mind when thinking back to the show. It was hauntingly beautiful, both in the simple melodic guitar composition and the emotional lyrics - all of which Rick delivered with absolute perfection.
He was a perfect opening act and warmed up the audience nicely ready for Kiefer Sutherland, the headline act of the evening.
More people continued to arrive at the venue filling the space in front of the stage as they awaited Kiefer's arrival on stage.
Having been an actor for over thirty years, starring in movies like The Lost Boys, Flatliners, Stand By Me and more, it was his acclaimed portrayal of Jack Bauer in the hit TV series 24 that earned him Golden Globe and Emmy Awards.
Straying from the acting path and taking to the road, Kiefer Sutherland's Reckless tour is taking him all over Europe to prove to all his followers that he's not just a one-trick pony.
'I couldn't have imagined the depth with which I have fallen in love with touring' he explains.
'To have the opportunity to convey intimate, personal stories to an audience has, for me, proven to be priceless'.
The show last night at The Nick Rayns LCR in Norwich paid testament to his words, as he performed tracks from his 2016 debut album Down In A Hole.
It is an album filled with lyrics that seem to bare his soul, laying on the line experiences that are extremely personal allowing the audience to connect on a deeper level.
He started his not long after 9pm with Run To Him, leading into Something You Love. The crowd were right there with him from the start, packing out the venue, very evidently ready to enjoy Kiefer for the great musician he is.
On stage presence was something that was very natural for him, perhaps down to his years on the big screen. He ensured that he spoke to the audience throughout, interspersing the space between songs with anecdotes from his life that gave colour to the lyrics in some of his more personal tracks.
Kiefer Sutherland's love of music shone through, supported by a group of musicians who were equally comfortable on stage and experts in their respective fields, delivering hard hitting country melodies throughout.
A highlight of the evening was his performance of Truth In Your Eyes, a deeply personal song about a loved one passing away very early on in their life.
He told the crowd of how this song had helped a fan deal with a loss in their own life and how he hoped that in sharing his story it would show people that they're not alone in what they are experiencing.
All in all, it was a great night of country music, proving that it is possible to come from acting into music with success – proven by the volume of people that turned up to his show and sang and cheered all night long.
