It is a colourful event which oozes community spirit, bringing people of all ages and all walks of life together.

That's Exploding Brass!

The sound of music and fireworks will fill the air in Taverham on Saturday, July 18 when the stage is set for another ambitious show which pushes the boundaries and sets new standards for 'village' entertainment.

The production is set in the attractive ground of Taverham Hall and the concert will include Taverham Brass Band, the Sole Bay Jazz band, Nzinga African dance, soprano Rebecca Munday, Treble Melody Youth Theatre and of course a firework finale.

Established in 1995, the event has become established on the summer calendar.

The last one was held in 2007 and that was so successful it has led to a bigger and better concert this year.

'We are aiming for a sell-out audience of 3000 and tickets are now available,' said musical director and producer Ian Colman.

'The format is similar to the former fireworks concerts at Blicking when people bring along chairs, tables and picnics for a relaxing evening, with a barbecue and beer tent on site,' he explained.

'Many people enjoy the spectacle of a summer musical evening with fireworks, and our event is designed to appeal to and suit the pocket of families in Norfolk,' added Ian. 'Because of the hard work by local volunteers and the generous support from businesses, we are able to stage this highly professional show at an affordable price.'

Money raised at previous concerts were invested into the community at Taverham and also donated to Macmillan Cancer Support.

The programme includes favourites from the Last Night of the Proms. A feature from Disney's The Lion King, and popular music from the charts, films and musicals.

The host for the evening will be Helen McDermott.

Tickets cost 15 for adults and 6 for children (11015) and are available from www.explodingbrass.co.uk, 01603 869366 and in person from Abbotts Estate Agents at Taverham, Drayton Post Office, Alterations Express at Taverham Nursery, and Skyplane Worldchoice Travel at Hellesdon.

The concert is supported this year by the Eastern Daily Press, NatWest Private Banking, Sprowston Manor Hotel and Radio Norwich.
