Meadowlark will be performing at The Owl Sanctuary on Timber Hill in Norwich with support from fellow electronic songstress Heydra Lema on December 2, 2017.
Both Kate McGill, lead singer and keys, and Dan Broadley, backing vocals, guitar and synthesizer, started off their early careers individually before forming the group together back in 2013.
Kate was formely known for writing and covering songs on YouTube where she clocked up over 30 million views on her channel making her one of the most subscribed to musciains on the site.
During that time she uploaded over 100 videos beating over 2000 competitors to win Tesco Entertainment’s 1Click2Fame in 2000. Her fanbase continued to grow over the years until she announced in 2012 that she would no longer be performing by herself, playing a farewell show in London on December 19, 2012.
During this time, Dan was playing in various rock bands and earning a reputation as a great director making videos with the likes of Don Broco, Lower Than Atlantis and Mallory Knox.
Disastisfied with bandmates that would neither shift their focus or gig further than 10 miles from home, something had to give.
With both Dan and Kate hailing from Plymouth, a town with a relatively small music scene, it’s little surprise they already knew of each other.
After getting together and having a jam session, it was only matter of weeks before they formed the band and were asked to support Bastille on their tour.
Off the stage, their track ‘Eyes Wide’ was added to BBC Radio 1’s Introducing playlist which also lead to being invited to perform a session on Dermot O’Leary’s BBC Radio 2 show, play Glastonbury’s Introducing stage and Dot to Dot amoung many others.
Most recently, Meadowlark released the video for their newest single ‘Sunlight’ which was directed by Dan himself. Featuring two men in Y-fronts and Donald Trump masks making out, the video is provocative but rather than aimlessly smearing America or its president, the video is a satirical look at prejudice.
“Sunlight is probably one of Meadowlark’s biggest sounding songs and with that I wanted to create a big visual statement for it. A lot of our conversations recently have been swaying towards political discussion and it’s hard not to bring up the USA during them,” explained Dan.
“I have no idea why I thought up the idea I did, it just came to me, possibly because of my pent up frustration with all that’s going on over there.”
“Once it was in my head I couldn’t think of anything else to go with the song (believe me, I tried).”
Since then they’ve had a busy summer of UK festivals, also teaming up with producer EMBRZ on his recent single ‘Heartlines’.
Tickets for the Norwich show on December 2 are available from The Owl Sanctuary website.
