Festivalgoers heading to Radio 1's Big Weekend in Norwich have been warned to keep their eyes safe from the sun and dehydration.

Taylor Swift, Foo Fighters and Muse will take to the stage Earlham Park at the weekend to entertain 50,000 lucky ticket holders.

Steve Schallhorn, chief medical director at Optical Express, has revealed his top festival eye care tips, which include staying safe with sunglasses.

He said: “Sunglasses that are dark or tinted may look like they will shade your eyes, but only 100pc UV-protected sunglasses will prevent your eyes from being exposed to harmful UV rays.

“Make sure you wash your hands with an anti-bacterial solution before touching your eyes.

“Rubbing your eyes with dirty hands can lead to infections including conjunctivitis, sties and fungal keratitis.”

He added wearing a hat could keep eyes safe from the sun, especially between 10am and 2pm when the sun is at its strongest.

Optical Express has offered one Evening News reader the chance to win £200 in vouchers to spend on eyewear.
