Mind master Derren Brown learned to espresso himself in a whole new way when he gave making coffee another shot at a Norwich cafe and roastery which he always makes a point of visiting when he's in the city.

Typically generous Tweeter Derren Brown has had a latte on his mind this week as he took some time out from preparing for his show at Norwich Theatre Royal enjoy a spot more barista training at Strangers Coffee house on Pottergate in the city.

The multi-award winning speciality coffee shop and roastery was visited on Wednesday by the TV magic man who learned how to make his favourite blend, Rocko Mountain, with a spot of barista training from Strangers' director Alex Sargeant.

'Roasted coffee with @strangerscoffee in Norwich with Alex who barista trained me,' Brown wrote on Twitter, 'After carefully cooking and twiddling you see not just familiar brown beans but something beautifully roasted. Here's me making Rocko Mountain, my fave.'

Derren also appeared to have issues with the hotel room he is staying in, saying that the TV had kept him awake for three hours: 'Spent three hours trying to get to sleep in hotel with what sounded like neighbour's TV on. Eventually after Zen tactics ran out, I got up to see where it was coming from and realised it was my own TV in the other room #mindmaster #leadingmentalist #two rooms.'

And he praised Norwich's 'lovely crowds' and the 'phenomenal in-house crew' at Norwich Theatre Royal, adding 'always such a pleasure, we all appreciate it so much, thank you'.

On previous visits to the Fine City, Derren has praised the 'gorgeous 1920s bar billiards table at the Coach and Horses', Norwich institutions The Waffle House and The Bicycle Shop, breakfasts at St Giles House and the 'glorious, secret' Plantation Gardens .

The star is a regular visitor to Strangers, telling The Guardian in 2015: 'When I'm touring there's quite a few coffee shops that have become my haunts: Pink Lane and Flat Caps in Newcastle, Spring in York, Bold Street in Liverpool. Tours are mammoth, tiring projects, so these become my places to hang out. It's difficult to pick one, but I suppose Strangers in Norwich is my favourite. It's run by a guy called Alex, and I ended up staying after hours and getting a proper lesson in barista-ing. I've got a lovely coffee machine and I really love coffee, but I was aware I probably wasn't making the perfect cup, so he showed me how. I was desperately trying to get the latte art right. I learned my coffee skills there, so I'm very grateful.'

Even more amazing acts of Derren-do are set to stream on Netflix as master magician Brown brings his new 'best-of' show to sold-out crowds in Norwich until Saturday. Miracle is the second of a trio of special editions which Brown is set to premiere on Netflix – the first was The Push, the third will be an original work which is in production.
