From music into the night to rural arts and crafts, fashion shows, art exhibitions and demonstrations, the Royal Norfolk Show offers a host of arts and culture treats. Simon Parkin highlights what to do and where to head to get cultural at the show.

Into The Night

Make a day of it is something that has often been said of the Royal Norfolk Show but this year you really can right into the night with an extended grand ring programme, live music and great food and drink on the Wednesday. A full programme of entertainment and events will run until 10pm and will include evening performances from the Adrenaline Tour Quad Bike Stunt team and the RAF Falcons. Food and drink will be available into the evening with the Adnams Food and Drink Experience also staying open till late. There is a Mid-Summer Evening £10 (£5 cons) ticket too for those who can't make it for the whole day, offering entry to the show after 4pm.

Music Beneath the Stars

As part of the new evening programme on the Wednesday the popular Jimmy's Festival will take place with a host of live music at the new Woodland Area until 10pm. The line-up of local talent put together by Jimmy's Festival, Access to Music and Woodforde's Brewery, includes singer-songwriter Baden (6pm); acoustic duo Heavenli and George (6.35pm); Olivia Watson with some mixed voice covers (7.10pm); vocal trio close harmony group The Wannabes (7.40pm); Karolina singing opera and show songs (8.15pm); country and western act Lucy Grubb (8.50pm); and the Big Sing Band (9.30pm).

Sainsbury Centre

This year the Sainsbury Centre, the first public building designed by world renowned architect Norman Foster, is celebrating 40 years. It is home to the Robert and Lisa Sainsbury Collection, comprising over 1,400 items spanning 5,000 years including artefacts from prehistory through to the late 20th century, and from across the globe. |They will be at the show with a series of free pop-up short talks by artists, curators, historians and art specialists throughout the two days. You will also be able to get involved with some an artist-led activities including many aimed at children.

Art Works

Local artwork, including 325 paintings and 22 sculptures, will be available to buy on both days of the show in the How Art Gallery. The works will also be judged by the sponsor and a winner selected. Last year's winner was Richard Motely. Art demonstrations will be taking place at the gallery where visitors can see the artists at work and get some tips. On Wednesday it will feature Phil Daniels, who uses all media to create wildlife paintings, while on Thursday its Colin Revell, a Norfolk-born artist specialising in watercolour. Gena Ivanov, who specialises in oils, will be present on both days.

Show Style

For fashionista there will only be one place to head — Jarrold's annual fashion show. Eyes will be on the catwalk to get some of the key looks for summer from many of your favourite fashion brands. The programme includes fashion shows hourly from 11am on both days, interspersed with presentations, demonstrations and makeovers from the Jarrold beauty team. There will be entertainment throughout the day from talented singer Dale Bullimore too. On both days the EDP Norfolk team will be on hand.

Ring The Bells

The Diocese of Norwich will once again be at the Royal Norfolk Show on both celebrate and highlight the church's role in local communities across the county. Amongst a wide range of activities, areas to explore and exhibits, including activities for children and young people to get stuck into, there will be the opportunity to try bell ringing for the first time. School choirs and music groups will be performing on the stage during both days. You can also help construct a big church building from Lego, to highlight community volunteers, and there will be a display of local wedding photos from across the years.

Get Crafty

Whether you want to see artists and artisans in action, buy their goods or even have a go at trying your hand at emulating their skills, rural arts and crafts are always a feature of the Countryside Area. Amid the packed programme of ring activities, everything from highly popular pig racing, Dog and Duck show, and large-bird displays, you will find fascinating demonstrations of spoon making, coracle making, corn dollies, longbows, chairs and pole lathe turning, as well as blacksmiths in action. The Crafts Village is the place to find an inspiring collection of locally made craft products. While the Forestry and Wood Village has woodland crafts including a new wood-carving competition for local tree surgeons taking place on both days of the show.
