People can enjoy a sneak preview this Friday evening after a parade of elephant puppets at 7pm from Gaol Hill to Chapelfield Gardens as part of the Lord Mayor’s Celebration weekend, and the main Circus250 festivities will run from July 11 to 15.

In Monday’s newspaper we will be launching a competition for one lucky reader to win a golden ticket giving free entry for two adults to all the shows and for three children to all the family shows.

We will also have 50 pairs of tickets to give away for a preview performance of Norwich-based Lost in Translation Circus’ new show Famished.

The full Circus250 programme will features acts from around the world, and the whole event has been led by Lost in Translation Circus (LiT) who have teamed up with Norwich City Council to put on the five day extravaganza celebrating the 250th anniversary of the magic of the big top.

LiT are especially looking forward to entertaining audiences with The Hogwallops, a show they have toured around the world, as well as their new food-themed work in progress Famished - Phase 1 which is for audiences aged 12 and over.

LiT co-director Massimiliano Rossetti said: “Famished marks something of a new direction for LiT, a bit darker with less knockabout slapstick but still retaining the fun, humour and very high level skills that we are renowned for.”

The full list of shows people can get free entry to with the golden ticket prize includes:

July 11: Lost in Translation’s Famished

July 12 8pm: Fauna - five performers balance, tumble, jump and fly as they look at the links between humans and the animal kingdom.

July 13 7pm: Lost in Translation’s The Hogwallops

July 14 2.30pm: The Hogwallops

July 14 7pm: Casus’ Knee Deep - a show that tests the boundaries of strength and fragility through acrobatics and aerial stunts
