In probably the most exciting news for under-8s since, well the last thing they got hyperactive about, Bob The Builder, Little Princess, Noddy and Fireman Sam are all on their way to Norwich to star in a new all-singing, all-dancing family show.

They will share the stage with the likes of Toyland Detective, Shimmer and Shine, Winnie and Wilbur, and Wissper for Milkshake! Live, The Magic Story Book which is at Norwich Theatre Royal this weekend.

Featuring a host of characters from Channel 5’s popular children’s strand, the show will also feature the Milkshake! Monkey and, attempting to keep the excitement under control, two of the presenters of the TV programme, Jen Pringle and Amy Thompson.

“We invite the audience to the milkshake magical bookcase this year and travel through different fairy tales helping milkshake monkey fulfil his dream of being a fairy tale prince,” said Amy. “We need the audience’s help to travel into the different fairy tales and to help milkshake monkey on his journey. There is lots of singing and dancing too. It is a really fun family show.”

Amy started dancing at the age of five going on to achieve advanced levels in a number of dance disciplines as well as graduating from the University of Hull with a drama degree.

“I grew up in Hull and I’m the eldest of four girls. I started dance classes when I was five. I loved tap dancing the most. I had lessons till I was 16 then I concentrated more on my acting. I used to put on little performances for my family and charge them 20p to watch whether they wanted to or not! I was very determined that I wanted to be a professional performer.”

She joined Milkshake! in 2009 and also has a wide range of theatre credits including at Hull Truck Theatre, where she John Godber as a mentor.

“His style is very physical comedy and lots of multi-role playing. To become a different character simply by changing your physicality and voice in a split second, with no costume change or props was just so engaging and inspiring for me. He’s one of my greatest influences.”

The leap into Milkshake! was very different but equally fun and challenging, she adds. “I grew up watching Noddy and Fireman Sam so I love that we still have them on Milkshake! My niece and nephew adore PAW Patrol and Shimmer and Shine so the best thing for me personally is getting to wave to them on the TV. They think I’m very cool.”

Well-known Milkshake! presenter Derek Moran, who also directs the production, adds: “We cannot wait to visit Norwich. It is magical and full of audience participation. The audience will love the classic fairytale storylines, all the songs and the chance to see lots of their favourite characters live on stage.”
