Prepare to be amazed as Britain’s Got Talent runner-up Jamie Raven comes to the city with his latest show.

Walking into the Norwich Playhouse auditorium to meet Jamie, he greets me with a hug and chats about his uncle that lives in Wotton.

It’s clear he’s excited to be back in the city.

Despite his success since appearing on the show in 2015, where he eventually finished second to dog act Jules O’Dwyer & Matisse, Jamie is humble and very likeable which keeps the audience – as well as his cards – in the palm of his hand.

His new show Making Magic follows sell-out tours in 2016 and 2017, including dates at the Norwich Theatre Royal, and audience participation is a huge part of it.

To make it fair for everyone, Jamie gets the audience to have selfies taken as they enter the theatre so they can be chosen using a random generator to come up on stage.

Mr Raven said: “It’s a magic show for all the family and rather than just a generic trick after trick show I wanted to look a little bit deeper about magic and what it is, what it means to people and how you go about creating it.

“Then at the end of the show we take one of the members of the audience and make them the magician and they do the last trick of the night.”

His biggest achievement to date was headlining global smash-hit The Illusionists in November and December 2015 at the Shaftesbury Theatre in London, which was the most successful magic show in West End history.

Jamie first discovered his love of magic on a family holiday and his Britain’s Got Talent audition was the result of 25 years of hard work.

“The best bit of taking part in Britain’s Got Talent was my audition,” he said.

“I wasn’t nervous, I was excited but on the same token it’s like four minutes could change your life – and here we are.

“When I was a kid I was always interested in watching magic, but when I was 10 I was in India visiting family friends and a magician came over to our table in a restaurant.

“Afterwards he offered to take me and my brother away and teach us some of the tricks – I learnt three tricks that night and I’m 35 now and know four, so if you come to the show you get to watch them all.”

Jamie Raven performs at the Norwich Playhouse on October 1 and 2, Marina Theatre in Lowestoft on October 3 and King’s Lynn Corn Exchange on October 10. Click here to purchase tickets.
