Whether you want to catch some last minute bargains in the sales, invest in your autumn wardrobe or buy the perfect item for your holiday, August is a great time to spend a few pennies in the shops. By Emma Harrowing.

Whether you have the occasional spot or you suffer from outbreaks the Super Spot Remover from Origins is a good product to have in your bathroom cabinet. If you love the Be Delicious fragrances from DKNY you will love the designer brand’s new Golden Delicious perfume. The fruity woody scent is perfect for the end of summer. Available from August 22 at The Perfume Shop in The Mall and Chapelfield, the EDP costs from £32.

Real charcoal barbeques are great when the weather is dry and sunny but the fun can disappear if you struggle to light the coal. This smart gadget can help. Stand the Kadai charcoal starter into a fire bowl or barbeque, scrunch up four of five pieces of newspaper in the base fill it with charcoal and light the paper. After 10 minutes the charcoal will be hot enough for you to tip it into your barbeque and start cooking. Fingers crossed that we get some more sunny weather so that we can head to the beach as we simply adore this stripy beach bag from George at Asda. And it’s a bargain at £4.

Pencil skirts are making a comeback in the autumn so why not wear this trend now with this linen button wrap skirt from Great Plains. Wear with this summer’s blouse for office chic or a t.shirt and pumps for a dressed down look. Teadance skirt, £56, Great Plains at John Lewis.

Shorts are a big trend for summer and you can still wear them for autumn when teamed with a pair of opaque tights. Solar shorts, £42, Monsoon in Chapelfield.

Mod fashion is making a comeback in autumn and winter collections so these two-tone brogue shoes are perfect for any man’s wardrobe. Frankie Brogue, £66.99, Office in Chapelfield.

If you are getting ready to go on holiday there is one item that you mustn’t forget to pack. For men it is a pair of checked swim shorts that you can also wear as shorts (we love these from TU at Sainsbury) and for women it is a sarong that you can wear as a cover-up, a skirt, top or dress (we love this collage print sarong, £35 from House of Fraser).

Eyeliner is looking like it will be a beauty must-have for autumn as eyes get a 60s look. Eye liner was worn along the top and bottom lash line on the autumn and winter catwalks to create an eye that is well defined. Black kohl pencil, £3, Next.

With a 60s fashion revival tipped for the new season why not invest in this 60s inspired top from Norwich fashion designer Claudia Orrell from Silk and Sawdust. The top is gorgeous and is even more appealing when we found out that it is in the sale for £32.50,

If you have got a man in your life that just loves to put his keys and wallet in your handbag when you are out, why not treat him to a bag of his own. This leather bag, £75 from White Stuff is ideal for his mobile, wallet and keys, and you might be able to give him your stuff to carry too!

Coloured skinny jeans are a continuing trend, but if you don’t like the skinny jean how about wearing a pair of coloured leggings instead? These indigo leggings, £35 from American Vintage at Nola on Timberhill will give a pop of colour to your outfit.
