Like most motorists, I do not particularly like speed cameras. I am suspicious of some of their locations as they look as if they have been positioned to make money and little else, but there certainly are some that reduce motorists' speed and prevent accidents.

If there was ever a need for a speed camera it's on the St Faiths Road, Catton, the lower section of the road that is the continuation of Fifers Lane.

The speeding along that section of road (which has a 30mph limit) is, at times, nothing short of frightening. In fact, I think the only time the limit is complied with is when the road is congested.

Just in the past few weeks both pedestrian refuges in the centre of the road, which consist of two bollards and a tall central light positioned on a raised kerb, have been completely flattened and now lie in a state of disrepair.

There have also been three serious accidents in which the road was closed causing massive congestion throughout the area and numerous minor shunts and near accidents.

It seems as if there's one incident or another on a daily basis.

I'm sure it's only a matter of time before a fatality occurs, unless something is done to slow these people down.
