One reader shares their sentiments on furniture donation. How do you feel about giving away possessions to charity?

The high street is changing, many shops are closing in part because of online retailing. One of the signs of the time is the rise of charity shops.

We've been changing furniture recently and donating some of our used items, to charity. It's much better than taking things to the dump.

We seek no praise but perhaps a message for those who consider such goods for collection. Be gentle, whether you agree to pick-up or not. That old but well kept sofa, (or whatever) is part of our past. You can do what you like with it but we hope it will find a home and generate a bit of money.

Household effects are not like animals but we do imbue them with affection. 'Tread softly because you tread on my dreams.' Most of you do.

Do you agree with our reader? Is there a sentimental aspect to second-hand furniture? Let us know in the comments below or write to us at edpletters@archant.co.uk
