I recently had an angina attack at the end of a concert and was quickly seen by the St John’s Ambulance members present, a first responder and a musician paramedic.

Within 10 minutes I was also seen by an ambulance crew and given an ECG aboard. The on-site treatment and attention was excellent, as was the follow-up treatment in the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital.

However, I have the following observations from my experience. Ambulances will never reach their targets and be available if as seems normal they are kept waiting in a queue at the hospital.

The A&E department needs to be bigger so patients are not kept waiting on trolleys in the corridor, and more staff are needed in the A&E so patients are not kept waiting for so long before receiving assessment and treatment.

As a senior citizen with known heart problems this was the longest I have had to wait on any rushed in visit. More resources for our NHS is my message to the government.

If this means leaving the EU, to release more money for our own needs, so be it, but that’s another issue.
