It would be a great improvement to the appearance of a fine city if some attention were to be given to Tombland.

The whole area is covered with walker-unfriendly cobbles which are of no great date — they are not present in early 20th century photographs of the scene. Why should they not be replaced by paving slabs so that people could walk and sit under the trees?

And in one corner is an underground public lavatory which has been closed for years and which has an ugly bunker-like roof. Why should this not be levelled and also paved?

Tombland is a magnificent urban space but it needs help!

Mark Sorrell, Park Lane, Norwich.
