I have thought for a long time that Norwich needs a new concert hall, not only for classical concerts but for all large-scale exhibitions. In fact, it should be an all-purpose hall to bring the area of Magdalen Street and St Augustine’s into the cultural sphere of the city.
This would increase the flow of people coming to this area. I am thinking this could be where Her Majesty’s Stationery Office building is at present which has been empty for as long as I can remember. There is already a car park and cinema and adding a cultural centre would enhance Norwich as a venue for large orchestras to perform instead of the dreadful facilities at St Andrew’s Hall and with better sound acoustics.
Just think what opportunities this would bring to Norwich and for the people of Norfolk to be able to encourage people into this area which has been deprived of facilities like this for too long. It would enhance the area and boost the commerce of the shops along Magdalen Street.
I can see this becoming a centre of excellence for the people of Norwich as well as providing space for housing with landscaping to bring trees and greenery. I would love to suggest fountains as was suggested by another reader, but I guess they might be vandalised, although the thought was lovely. I hope that you will put this suggestion into the pot and hope that it will be discussed as a possible reality for the people of Norfolk.
