Beauty has gone a shade of purple for autumn as berry colours reign supreme in the latest eye makeup collections. Emma Harrowing takes a look at the new products that can help you bring your look up to date.
Dior is one of many beauty houses that showcased purple eyes in its autumn/winter 2011 make-up collection.
From violet to magenta, a purple hue for eyes features in the majority of new make-up palettes available on the high street and it’s a colour that is so very now with berry colours a popular fashion choice.
In Norwich, the majority of beauty counters on the high street feature a purple shade of eye shadow in their new palettes.
The new Yves Saint Laurent palette features three different shades of purple and is new and exclusive to John Lewis and for those on a budget Superdrug has a range of purple solo shade eye shadows for a fraction of the cost.
Make-up artists at Dior clashed a smoky purple eye with a red lip for the catwalk, but if you stick to the traditional make-up rule of heavy eyes/nude lips, you can create a more wearable look.
There are two main eye make-up trends this season.
The first is a polished and neutral look, usually created with a flawless base, pink lip gloss, a neutral colour wash over the eye lid and a touch of mascara, but you can get this look using a lilac purple eye shadow brushed gently over your eye lid instead of a brown.
The second look is the winged smoky eye, a statement look with a simple flick and a dust of two purple shades over the eyes. To create this look apply a lighter shade of purple over your eyelid and then apply a darker purple to the outer edge of your eyelid and blend in.
Next draw a thin line with eye-liner from the inner corner of your eye to the outer edge, then with a steady hand extend the line out from the eye and flick up.
Finish with a couple of coats of mascara.
