Poringland Wanderers are planning an Easter Sunday generation game as they mark the 20th anniversary of the most outstanding feat in the club's history.

The wise old heads of the club's 1992-93 treble-winning team will meet the current crop of young talents in a match in memory of former club chairman Tom Greensides to raise funds for Help for Heroes.

Ben Casey, 53, who masterminded the success which saw Wanderers lift the Norwich Sunday League, League Cup and Norfolk Sunday Senior Cup, will be taking the helm and pitting his wits against the team run by his son Luke, 25.

Despite the age difference, with players in their 50s facing opponents as young as teenagers, Ben says it's not a given that youth will triumph over experience.

'We have got rolling subs and that should help. I have got a squad of about 18,' said Ben.

Luke, who was a four-year-old mascot for the treble-winning team, and now manages the side chasing promotion in Norwich Sunday League Division 2b added: 'It should be a good game. The main reason is to raise some money. It has created quite a bit of banter in the house.'

Ben said it had originally been planned to stage a 20-year reunion match, but when club stalwart Tom Greensides died last November, the game took on an added dimension. Tom's widow Gwen will present a trophy to the winning team after the match at the village playing field on March 31 (ko 2).

'Tom was football mad. He loved the club. He was there every Sunday morning without fail,' said Ben. He is hoping that all of the players from the class of 1992-93 will be able to attend as most of them still live locally.

Three sons of members of the treble-winning squad are also likely to be in action with Scott Casey (son of Ben), Nathan Causton (son of Jeff) and Robin Farrow (son of Trevor) pulling on their boots and showing what sort of a footballing education their fathers gave them.

Poringland Wanderers, who joined the Norwich Sunday League in 1962, enjoyed a golden period in the early 90s. During four seasons at the helm Casey won the double (91-92) and the treble the following year. Under John Glenn they won the treble again in 1994-95. The feat has only been achieved by six clubs in the league's 55-year history, with Mark Jones' Marlborough the most recent side to pull it off in 2011-12.

During the 1992-93 season Barry Bircham, Adie Carr and Shaun Cann were 33-game ever-presents for Wanderers. Andy King was top scorer with 39 goals in 32 games; Shaun Cann (27 in 33), Danny Casey (11 in 12 (16 sub), Jefff Causton (15 in 31) and Mark Harrowing (12 in 24).

Wanderers beat Schooners 2-0 to win the Norfolk Sunday Senior Cup at Carrow Road with goals from Tommy Casey and Shaun Cann. Cann (2) and Casey netted in the 3-2 league cup final win over Hellesdon. Norwich Busmen were runners-up as Wanderers secured the Sunday League Division One title.
