Emma Harrowing goes behind the scenes at Think Pink to discover some of the unsung heroes who aim to make its gala dinner a success.

In October, guests will be wined, dined and entertained at what is becoming one of the must-attend events this year.

The Think Pink Gala dinner is billed to bring the bright lights and glitterati of London's West End to Open in Norwich with dinner, dancers and talented musicans.

It's all to raise money for two cancer charities – Breakthrough Breast Cancer and Target Ovarian – and although work is taking place behind the scenes to ensure the evening goes with a bang, there will be other Think Pink fundraising events between now and October in a bid to raise as much money as possible.

As with most charity events a team of volunteers is working hard to make sure the event is as successful as it can be.

Sarah Mintey, principal of the Open Youth Trust is one.

Think Pink is doing its utmost to involve young people in every way it can and Sarah is an integral cog in making sure young people are given opportunities to work with professionals.

She says: 'I didn't hesitate to join the Think Pink committee. It is an opportunity to provide young people with vital work experience they need to realise their hopes and dreams and to raise their aspiration for their own future while helping a worthy cause.

'We regularly work with performing arts students from the Ormiston Victory Academy in Costessey and Jo Chandler and her West End Experience group to give young people a taste of what it is like to train and work with professional West End dancers. It is this winning combination we will bring to the gala dinner in October and guests will be treated to an electrifying experience.

'Along with providing the entertainment aspect to the event, Ben Burt, our positive activities manager, is working with young people from the Open youth programmes to create a documentary to bring home what we are raising money for,' says Sarah.

'The films will be created with Think Pink's two nominated charities to demonstrate the impact and work each charity undertakes. The film will be screened at the gala dinner.'

The films will be available to view here online later in the year and your Evening News will be following the work of the Think Pink event in the paper.
