New signing James keeps Grove title push in top gear

PUBLISHED: 18:07 28 October 2011

On a Sunday morning perfect for playing football, I travelled to Acle Rangers to watch them face current Premier Division leaders The Grove.

In a tight first half of few clear-cut chances, Acle were unlucky not to go in front when they hit the crossbar, but a sweeping move down the left by the visitors saw Lloyd Greening put them in front right on the half time whistle.

The second period continued in similar vein and a carbon copy of the move that produced the first goal saw Sam Mallett head the second before new signing Aaron James added a third. AFC Wanderers moved up to second spot after thumping Unicorns 7-1, with goals coming from Farin Deeba 2, Luke Tuttle, Daniel Barrowclough, Craig Vincent, Liam Blofeld and Duane Thompson. Dog House scored four times whilst winning at Reepham, and the winners of the September Sporting Award Hellesdon Athletic, won 4-2 at Wymondham Rangers.

It’s still neck and neck at the top of 1A, with Vale Longo beating Hainford YCOB 5-0 and Dussindale Rovers winning 3-1 at North Walsham Town.

Fiveways were held to a 2-2 draw at Horsford SC, whilst Norman Wanderers were beaten 3-1 at Eaton FC whose goals came from Ian Dodimead, Jon Soderberg and Ronny Qoopre de Barra.

The Castlegate had a 2-0 home win over Aslacton and the game between Windmill Wanderers and The Otter ended in a 3-3 draw.

Sprowston Rovers top 1B after a good 3-1 home win over Norfolk CCSC, whilst Prince of Denmark’s good run continued as they won 4-1 at Earlham Utd. Catton beat Sprowston Wanderers 3-0 and there was a 1-1 draw between Rose Tavern and Spixworth, with Will Abbs scoring for the home side.

In the top game in 3A leaders Hockering saw a three goal lead disappear at Sprowston Sunday for whom Josh Halliday 2, and Jim Lawrence were on target and despite goals by Jason Barber and Ricky Grimmer, Acle Wanderers conceded two late goals to go down 4-2 at home to The Stores.

There was a nine-goal thriller at The Griffin where the home side won by the odd goal against nine-man Green Man, and Deopham beat a depleted Norman Wanderers Res 7-2 (Mark Quinsey 2, Jonathan Oakley 2, Lewis McKerell 2 and Phil Mercer).

In 2B, leaders Heartsease FC won 4-1 away at Sporting Farmhouse with goals coming from Tom Whitmore, Chris Parnell, og, and a Aaron Kay wonder goal from inside his own half and they remain a point clear of Moles Rest who beat Maid Marian 2-0.

PL Rangers 4-0 victory over Poringland Res included a goal for 16-year-old Rhys Logan and Ribs Rovers had a comfortable 5-1 win against Acle Rangers Res.

The basement battle between Hethersett Athletic and Hillside OB ended in a first win of the season for the visitors by 2-0.

New Buckenham have opened up a two point gap at the top of 3A. As they were winning 5-2 at Constable Crusaders, second placed Riverside Rovers were being held to a 1-1 draw at Dancing Farmers.

River Garden found themselves four down at half time at home to Newsman Celtic, but despite scoring four themselves after the break through Barry McCarthy, Martin Kemp, Gareth Davies and Chris Neave, they still went down 5-4.

Credit to River Garden though as they praised their opponents and the referee highly after an entertaining game. Hellesdon Athletic Res had a 5-2 victory over The Reindeer, whilst Mad Moose beat Norman Wanderers A 4-2 thanks to a brace each for Chris and Dan Goodwin.

Biggest win in the division though saw Sporting Longdale score nine (Joel Baldwin 3, Tony Gowing 3, Josh Castillo-Hall 2 and Tibor Megyesi) without reply at Caseys Cosmos.

One Love Utd are the new leaders of 3B after a good 4-1 win at Briston Wanderers as previous leaders Salhouse Rovers were held to a goalless draw at Unicorns Res.

Sloughbottom Revolution are third after a 3-1 win at AFC Oak and new signing Dale Simpson grabbed a hat trick on his debut for Bell Inn as they beat Aylsham Res 6-2. Freethorpe had a good 3-1 victory at The Gordon.

Bungay Town continue to lead the way in 4A as they won 2-1 at Sporting Longdale Res, but are only top on goal difference from Whiterose Utd who were 5-0 winners at eight-man William Wanderers.

Another of the new clubs, Phoenix Felthorpe are also on 15 points after they won 3-2 at Temples Property, and a single goal was enough for Eaton Young Boys to complete a quick double over Earlham Colney.

There were also home wins for Temple Bar, 3-1 over Brooke and Manor Park, 2-1 against Hockering Res.

Richard Tubb, Sam Lincoln, Johnny Roy and James Barty and an OG were the scorers as 4B leaders Drayton came from behind to win 5-1 at Spixworth Res, whilst second placed William Wanderers had a 6-1 win at Windmill Elite.

Schoolhouse FC won by the odd goal of five (Callum Burke, Jack Smith and Joe Mccarthy) against Hethersett Res and Leon Campbell scored five times as Chapelfield Rovers won 6-3 at Costessey Sports Res.

Well done to Wendene Wanderers who gained their first points of the season with a 2-0 win at Salhouse Rovers Res.
