It was with great sadness I read of the demise of the Cock pub in Lakenham

This lovely old pub holds a special place in my heart as my Wedding Breakfast was held there and my children used to paddle and canoe in the river behind our railway cottage.

I was horrified to read that an application has been lodged with Norwich City Council to demolish part of this lovely old building.

Like CAMRA, I strongly object to these plans as this represents part of Norwich’s history.

It is indeed sorry that the pub has recently had three operators on decreasing rents.

Owned and cared for by some large company like Wetherspoons or Lloyds or Hungry Horse this could become viable and popular providing jobs for locals.

Neil Blowers was right when he stated the Cock is perfectly viable, a joy for families.

While I accept we need more affordable housing in Norwich, there are other sites that have been left for too long, ie The Earl of Leicester, Dereham Road.

I do hope locals fight to retain this lovely area of the city, (noise would not be a problem as there are no homes that close to the pub).

Come on Lakenham, fight to retain your local.
