Her adventurous rock chick style and vocals have won her many adoring fans, but many would not even dream they could wear Pixie Lott’s risqué style. Life Matters reader Carly Siggins is one fan who longs to have her pop idol’s style but isn’t brave enough to copy Pixie Lott’s look – until now. Emma Harrowing reports.
In her real life style too, Pixie Lott is not afraid to show off her legs with hot pants worn with over-the-knee socks and mini dresses worn with bare legs.
Her style is current and unequivocally fashionable. Blazers thrown over pretty dresses or a pair of skinny jeans, chunky bangles accessorising most of her looks and headbands are all trends that Pixie Lott has made her own. Even the classic white vest has been given a Pixie update by being tucked into her high waisted shorts or worn simply with leggings.
It’s a style that Life Matters reader Carly Siggins from Sutton would love to copy but is not brave enough to adopt.
With her petite slender frame and long slim legs Carly can easily pull off the Pixie Lott look. To show her how she can follow in her style idol’s footsteps we went to see Becky Cooper at Outfit on Riverside Retail Park.
Says Becky: “Carly has the perfect figure to carry off Pixie Lott’s risqué style. At the moment there are a lot of looks that adhere to the pop star’s look. Miss Selfridge has a range of short floral, stripey, animal print and black dresses. The brand also has a couple of different style high-waisted shorts.
“For those that want to replicate Pixie Lott’s look but are not brave enough to bare their legs, try wearing the shorts or dresses with a pair of leggings or opaque tights.”
As Carly has a pair of great pins she can get away with wearing a pair of high-waisted shorts with a pair of this season’s over-the-knee socks.
Lace is also a big trend this season and it’s a style that Pixie Lott has started to wear a lot of. Therefore the lace high-waisted shorts were teamed with a lace body and a pair of lace and patent shoe boots. Carly’s look was completed with a long necklace with a key pendant (Pixie was spotted wearing a similar one) and the ubiquitous headband worn Pixie style around the top of her forehead leaving her hair loose and tousled.
Carly’s hair is bleach blonde but her roots are starting to show through, she has also dyed a strand of her hair pink to adhere to the current colour hair trend.
To give her hair a bit of pop star quality we went to see Rachel and Becky at hair salon Hooloovoo on Pottergate.
Says Rachel: “Pixie Lott’s hair is very bleach blonde and to get Carly’s hair the exact same colour will take a few colourings. Therefore to get it looking similar to Pixie Lott’s I’m going to use a lot of bleach on Carly’s hair and leave it to process for as long as possible.
“Trying to remove the bright pink strand in the front section of her hair is an arduous task and again this will take a few colourings. Therefore I am going to make a feature of this and re-dye the strand pink.”
Carly usually wears her hair straight, but to achieve the look of Pixie Lott her hair needs more volume, curls and that ‘just got out of bed look’.
Says Becky: “For the cut I am going to add more body to Carly’s hair by blunting off the ends and cutting long layers through the length. When styling her hair I’m going to use hair straighteners to twist through sections of her hair to create loose waves, then by running my fingers through the length of her hair the curls will break up and loosen to give her a tousled look.”
When it comes to Pixie Lott’s makeup the eyes have it. Becky at Hooloovoo recreated the pop star’s look by enhancing Carly’s eyes using a black eyeliner across the top lash line. Lots of black mascara was then used to create voluminous lashes.
As her eyes were heavily made up, Becky kept Carly’s lips natural and as sugary pink as Pixie Lott’s with a pink lip gloss.
