Archant

Rachel Moore says the Cambridges’ decision to send Princess Charlotte to full-time nursery reflects changing society.

It was a barometer of how the rest of us works this week when the Cambridges revealed that Princess Charlotte had been enrolled into full-time nursery so Kate can focus on royal duties.

There’s still so much guilt attached to full-time working mothers who use nurseries every day, so to know the future king and queen have made that choice for their daughter might assuage some of that guilt.

It’s a different world and the Royal family have to live in it.

The Queen inviting Harry’s fiancée Meghan Markle to Sandringham for Christmas before they are married might have caused a sharp intake of breath in middle England but she is merely reflecting how the country has changed, as she should. There are far more important issues to get worked up about.

And we could all learn something from the Royal Family’s present-giving ethos – to spend no more than a fiver on something that will make the recipient and everyone else around the table laugh.
